Upstate Fatherhood Coalition
The Upstate Fatherhood Coalition (UFC) is focused on engaging fathers, building their strengths and helping them become better role-models for their children. This community-based, comprehensive and individualized program was formed in 1999 with funding from the Sisters of Charity Foundation.
The UFC provides a stimulating environment that teaches fathers valuable job and life skills while encouraging intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth. This learning experience helps fathers gain understanding about their roles as influencers and stresses the importance of being involved in their children’s lives.
After leaving UFC program, fathers are motivated to re-engage with their children and families, breaking the cycle of absenteeism and poverty. They also leave with a better outlook, self-confidence and a foundation for future success in society.
Kelly Walker, Executive Director for UFC, boasts a degree in social work and extensive training in social issues. He is a life-long resident of Greenville County and a single father of two children. Throughout his life, Walker has demonstrated community leadership along with strong organizational and administrative skills.

Champion of Dreams Award Criteria
The MLK Dream Weekend Executive Board will award the Champion of Dreams Award to two local organizations whose mission and work in the community is successful in helping people of this great area realize the possibility of dreaming and being able to rely on others to assist them in fulfilling those dreams.
Selection Criteria
Established local organization that has demonstrated, for a minimum of 5 years, their ability to help people of the community to dream big as Dr. King did, giving them hope and resources that prove successful towards fulfillment of a goal.
